Eric from Occupy Vancouver speaking at the rally...
Nov 1, 2011 12:45 PM CUPE members from across the country were deeply saddened with the passing of Jack Layton. He was an inspirational leader, a truly great Canadian, and a dear friend to CUPE. Delegates and guests to the 25th National Convention took time to honour the memory of Jack with this video.
Election proceedings at this year's National convention won't be quite the same after the passing of long-time labour activist Nancy Riche. She had been scheduled to attend as the Elections Officer, a role she played at many CUPE conventions.
Delegates attending this years National Convention watched a brief video tribute to Sister Riche who died earlier this month.
Nancy, a Newfounlander, was famous for her biting wit and fun-loving approach to life and politics. If you have heard Nancy sing 'Solidarity Forever', you realize it was a treat! Even more so if it was en français!
